Volunteers Needed

As anyone who has coached a team knows, the on-field time is the just the tip of the iceberg when it comes to running a team. Below are the areas where some assistance is needed for the coaching staff. If you are willing to volunteer for a particular area, please let me know.

Forest Hills Rugby Booster Club:
One of my goals is to get a Boosters Club formed. This would be a separate organization from the club itself consisting of parents assisting the coaches with a variety of administrative and off-field tasks. I have broken down various areas where the coaching staff needs assistance for the upcoming season.

Fund Raising:
While our equipment needs are minimal compared to other sports, any money raised could be used to lower dues, fund team jerseys, etc. Please be aware that as a club sport, we are receive no funding from Forest Hills Public Schools.

Team Apparel:
Besides the jersey, there is an opportunity to provide sweatshirts, hats, travel bags and assorted other logo’ed stuff for the kids. Looking for a parent to take charge of setting up and taking orders. I have the graphics available and several potential suppliers. Not looking at this as fund raiser, just so that there are options for the boys and/or parents.

Food:
Looking for someone to lead and coordinate post-game food. One of the traditions in rugby is that the home feeds the visiting side. It is just of the sport. I have made many friends during a post-game dinner. It does not have to be fancy. We are talking about teen-age boys, such subs or pizza is just fine. However, we are talking about 40+ teen-ages boys which are essentially a two-legged swarm of locusts.

Website:
Looking for a parent to take over the management of the site and keep it as updated as possible.

Field Set Up:

Coordinate the following items for home games.
1. Water and ice for the game. We can use the high school’s coolers/jugs.
2. Scheduling of water courier for the game Ideal for younger siblings.
3. Field lining and marking of key lines
4. Scheduling of two (2) ball boys for game. Ideal for younger siblings.
Note:Coach Ellwood views this as important as rugby has many kicks that go out of bounds. Ball boys would greatly help in maximizing actual playing time.
5. Assisting coaches with clean-up afterwards.

Scoreboard & Clock:
1. Run and reset the stadium clock. Rugby has a running clock and the official time is kept by the ref. So not as stressful as running a football/basketball clock.
2. Keep an accurate score on the scoreboard.

Touch Judges:
Each team provides a sideline judge to watch to call out of bounds and judge the posts on conversion or penalty kicks. Coach Ellwood would teach you the finer points. You would need to run a bit, so be aware. This would be needed for both home and away games. Plus you get a cute little flag to hold. Would prefer two to four volunteers so that it is not a rookie each and every time.

Banquet Coordinator:
Schedule a banquet facility for the end of year banquet, what part of the alphabet brings salad, entrees and dessert, working with coaches to get team awards made up.

Game Videos:
Volunteer to video the home games with own equipment or provided by Coach Ellwood.
